Inside Line Promotions – STILLWATER, Okla. (Sept. 5, 2017) – Zane Hendricks enjoyed rare time off from racing last weekend with no POWRi Lucas Oil West Midget Series races or similar events scheduled nearby.

“I did some work at home and I got to hang out with some friends,” he said. “I don’t normally get to do that because we’re usually gone racing. It was kind of nice. But I still would have rather been at the race track.”

Hendricks will have plenty of time at the track in the near future with eight races remaining on the POWRi West schedule. At this point, more racing is better as he strives to reach his goal for the season.

“Our goal this year was to win the Rookie of the Year Award,” said Hendricks, who currently ranks fifth in the POWRi West championship standings. “Right now we’re running second for that. We got way behind early in the year, but gained a lot of it back, although we did drop back a bit after our last weekend of racing.

“We’re a little ways behind the guy who’s the leading the rookie standings. But there are enough races left for us to catch him. Hopefully we can pick up some more good finishes and win it.”

As with most rookies, this season has been one of learning and gaining experience for Hendricks and his team.

“It hasn’t gone as good as I wanted it to, but it’s getting there,” he said. “We’ve learned a lot and improved a lot and been to a lot of new tracks. We’ve had a lot of mechanical issues, but we’ve gotten most of them figured out.”

Hendricks’s racing season will get back on track this Saturday at another new track for him – I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.

“I don’t know much about it,” he said. “I’ve seen a few videos of it, but that’s about it. It’ll be another first-time track for us.”
