Inside Line Promotions – BELLEVILLE, Ill. (Oct. 5, 2017) – Zane Hendricks fought adversity throughout the Knepper and Meents Memorial races at Belle-Clair Speedway last weekend with the Lucas Oil POWRi National Midgets Series.

The action, which was co-sanctioned with the POWRi West Midgets Series, got off to a foretelling start on Friday.

“A guy spun out right in front of me,” Hendricks said of his heat race. “I had nowhere to go. That bent the front axle and ended my race.”

The DNF in the heat race forced Hendricks to start 12th in one of the B Mains.
“I was able to get up to about sixth when the Jacobs Ladder broke,” he said. “The car didn’t handle well after that and I fell back a position or two.”

Saturday night got off to a solid start as Hendricks led approximately the first half of his heat race.

“Then there was a caution and a bit of miscommunication,” he said. “They came over the RACEiver during the caution and said, ‘spread them out and shut them down.’ I’m not sure if that’s just a National tour thing, but it sounded to me like they were calling a red so I pulled it out of gear. Apparently they were just calling a yellow so I had to restart at the back.”

Hendricks’ fifth-place heat race finish placed him in the eighth starting position for one of the B Mains.

“I was working my way toward the front when I got sandwiched between two cars on a restart and had to go to the back again,” he said. “I just couldn’t catch a break this weekend. It was also frustrating because we had closed the gap to 60 points in our race for Rookie of the Year. But after this weekend we fell back to about 190 points behind.”

Hendricks ranks fifth in the POWRi West Midget Series championship standings.
